English: For three months, the students of Westbrook School had prepared a play called The Moon Queen. The costumes were finished, the painted forest covered the back wall of the stage, and every ticket for the final performance had been sold. Fourteen-year-old Iris knew almost every part of the production, although she never appeared in front of the audience. She was the assistant stage manager. She moved chairs, checked props, reminded actors of their entrances, and solved small problems before anyone else noticed them. Iris liked working behind the curtains....
