Prepositional Phrases: In Time, On Time, At The End, In The End Kullanımı

Prepositional Phrase nedir?

Prepositional phrase, bir preposition ile başlayan ve genellikle bir isim, zamir, gerund veya isim öbeğiyle tamamlanan kelime grubudur.

Bu yapılar cümlede zaman, yer, yön, sebep, amaç, durum, ilişki veya açıklama anlamı verebilir.

Temel yapı:

preposition + noun / pronoun / noun phrase / gerund

Kısa mantık: Prepositional phrase genellikle bir preposition ile başlar ve cümleye zaman, yer, sebep, durum veya ilişki bilgisi ekler.

1. Prepositional phrases cümlede ne işe yarar?

Prepositional phrases cümlede farklı görevler üstlenebilir. En yaygın görevleri zaman, yer, sebep ve durum bilgisi vermektir.

Örnekler:

• We met after the lesson.
• She answered the question with confidence.
• The students waited outside the classroom.
• He succeeded because of regular practice.

2. In time kullanımı

In time, bir şeye yetişecek kadar erken veya son anda da olsa zamanında olmak anlamı verir. Türkçede çoğu zaman “yetişecek şekilde zamanında” veya “vaktinde yetişmek” gibi düşünülebilir.

Temel yapı:

in time for + noun
in time to + V1

3. On time kullanımı

On time, planlanan, beklenen veya belirlenen saatte olmak anlamı verir. Türkçede “tam vaktinde” demektir.

• The lesson started on time.
• The train arrived on time.
• Please submit your homework on time.
• She is always on time for class.

On time, gecikme olmadan, belirlenen programa uygun zamanda gerçekleşen şeyler için kullanılır.

4. In time ve On time farkı

In time bir şeye yetişme fikri verir. On time ise belirlenen saatte olma fikri verir.

• I arrived in time to take the test. → Teste yetiştim.
• I arrived on time for the test. → Test için tam vaktinde geldim.
• The bus came on time. → Otobüs saatinde geldi.

5. At the end kullanımı

At the end, bir şeyin son noktasını, son bölümünü veya fiziksel/soyut bitiş yerini anlatır. Genellikle of ile birlikte kullanılır.

In the end, bir süreçten sonra varılan sonucu anlatır. Türkçede “sonunda / neticede / en sonunda” anlamına gelir.

In the end, fiziksel bir son nokta değil, olayların sonucunu anlatır.

At first, bir durumun başlangıcında böyle olduğunu ama sonra değiştiğini anlatır. Türkçede “ilk başta” anlamı verir.

• At first, they didn’t like the idea.

At first genellikle sonra bir değişim olduğunu ima eder.

9. First ve At first farkı

First, bir sıralamanın ilk adımını anlatır. At first, başlangıçtaki durumun sonra değiştiğini anlatır.

In the beginning ve at the beginning birbirine yakın görünür ama kullanımları farklı olabilir.

In advance, “önceden / peşinen” anlamı verir. Bir şeyi olması gereken zamandan önce yapmak anlamında kullanılır.

At the moment, “şu anda” anlamı verir. In a moment, “birazdan / az sonra” anlamı verir.

For a moment, “bir anlığına / kısa bir süre” anlamı verir.

Kısa ayrım:

• at the moment → şu anda
• in a moment → az sonra
• for a moment → kısa bir süre / bir anlığına

15. On the way kullanımı

On the way, “yolda / yoldayken / giderken” anlamı verir.

• I’m on the way.
• She bought coffee on the way to school.
• We saw an old friend on the way home.
• The package is on the way.

On the way to + place yapısı çok yaygındır:

• on the way to work
• on the way to school
• on the way to the meeting

16. In the way kullanımı

In the way, “yolun üstünde / engel olacak şekilde” anlamı verir. Bir şeyin hareketi veya ilerlemeyi engellediğini anlatır.

• Your bag is in the way.
• Please move this chair; it is in the way.
• The table is in the way, so we can’t open the door.

Bu yapı on the way ile karıştırılmamalıdır.

17. By the way kullanımı

By the way, konuşmada yeni bir konuya geçerken veya ek bilgi verirken kullanılır. Türkçede “bu arada” anlamına gelir.

By the way, genellikle cümlenin başında kullanılır ve sonrasında virgül gelir.

Kısa ayrım: On the way = yolda. In the way = engel oluyor. By the way = bu arada.

At least, “en azından / en az” anlamı verir. At most, “en fazla” anlamı verir.

25. Prepositional phrase ve clause farkı

Prepositional phrase içinde genellikle çekimli fiil bulunmaz. Clause ise subject + verb yapısı içerir.

Örnek fark:

Prepositional phrases konusunu öğrenirken tek tek preposition ezberlemek yerine kalıpları cümle içinde öğrenmek daha verimlidir.

2. Sonrasında noun, noun phrase, pronoun veya gerund mı geliyor, kontrol et.
3. Kalıp zaman mı, yer mi, sebep mi, durum mu bildiriyor, belirle.
