Although the room was simple, guests repeatedly described the view as fabulous because it looked directly across the bay at sunset. The hotel has a fabulous view of the bay. They considered the immediate result as well as the effect the choice might have over a longer period. A small change in procedure removed one repeated problem without making the task more complicated. They checked the information from two directions rather than relying on a single assumption. The decision became easier once they separated what was necessary from what was merely convenient. One practical limitation changed which option was realistic, even though another choice looked better at first. They documented the final arrangement so it could be repeated consistently next time. A later check confirmed that the change had solved the original problem without creating a new one. The experience gave them a clearer standard for making a similar decision in the future.
